Trinity Lodge recently marked a momentous milestone with the celebration of its centenary, an occasion made all the more special by the presence of the Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro John Watts, who led a deputation to honour the Lodge’s first one hundred years.
Owing to the recent and sad passing of the Grand Master’s wife, the Duchess of Kent, there had been an unavoidable delay in the issuing of the official centenary certificate. In the meantime, a copy had been provided as a temporary measure. The Provincial Secretary, Richard Scott, formally read the certificate to the Lodge, after which the Provincial Grand Master presented it to the Worshipful Master, marking the centenary with due dignity and respect.
The celebrations continued with the Provincial Grand Chaplain reconsecrating the newly refurbished Lodge Bible. In his address, he reminded those present that it is often better to “restore what you already possess”, a sentiment that resonated strongly on such an historic occasion.
The next item of business was a potted history of Trinity Lodge, thoughtfully compiled and delivered by Fred Holmes. His account of the Lodge’s journey over the past century was very well received by all in attendance, which you can read here. He also advised brethren that a commemorative history booklet had been prepared, with a copy placed at each setting for the festive board. To further mark the occasion, a commemorative pin was presented to both the Provincial Grand Master, John, and the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Andrew Foster.
At the second rising, John was both overwhelmed and delighted to receive a cheque for the remarkable sum of £10,000 towards the 2032 Festival. This generous donation immediately elevates Trinity Lodge to Bronze level before the Festival has even been launched, a truly outstanding achievement and a testament to the Lodge’s commitment and generosity.
John also had the pleasing duty of making a field appointment to Worship Brother Clarry Stoddart, 63 years a member, to the rank of Past Provincial Grand Standard Bearer, remarkably, his first Provincial appointment.
With formalities completed, brethren retired to an enjoyable and complimentary festive board. During the evening, the Senior Warden presented the Worshipful Master with a time capsule containing items from the Lodge’s past. It was proposed that the capsule be opened in 25 years’ time, its contents examined, and further items added, before being sealed once more and opened again on the Lodge’s 150th anniversary.
The evening concluded with a raffle that raised an impressive £720, all of which was donated to the Haven Project, a Darlington-based club dedicated to helping young people choose positive and constructive paths in life.
It was, by all accounts, a wonderful evening enjoyed by everyone present. Warm congratulations are extended to all the members of Trinity Lodge on reaching their centenary, along with best wishes for continued success and fellowship over the next 100 years.
