The 2025 Ravensworth Masonic Golf Trophy

On a lovely day in early July, 80 Golfers met once more to compete for the 2025 Ravensworth Masonic Golf Trophy. This was the largest field ever to contest this competition, and it reflected the standing it has established within the Province of Durham.

The new Provincial Grand Master RWBro John David Watts was in attendance to wish the event every success. We were delighted at the way the course had been set out by the Greenstaff of Roseberry Grange Golf Club; and the manner in which the Members of the Course graciously allowed its use for most of the day.

A challenging Golf Course say Masons and Non-Masons alike playing for respectively for the Ravensworth Masonic Trophy and the new Colin Elrick Cup. Colin’s passing in April was a great blow to the competition as he was a big supporter of it for many years. It was decided that we honour his memory by establishing this new Trophy and were delighted that his widow, Alison, was agreeable to this and came along to present it.

Bacon Sandwiches and Coffee were served prior to the Golfers Tee-Offs and a steady flow from 10am enjoyed the course and the challenges it through up. Meanwhile in the Clubhouse Stephen Willis was busy organising the Administration and Raffle, many of the prizes were donated by those present and thanks are acknowledged.

The supported Group this year was the Armed Forces Charity, a very worthy cause indeed and one that the Province has endorsed with the Armed Forces Covenant. On the course the competition was ferocious with handicaps being used, and abused, for the good of the Competition. On completion everyone was served so well by the staff of Roseberry Grange with a 2-course meal which was gratefully received.

Then the results began to filter through; Bill Baty and Bryan Scott (past winners) came in with 43 points but that was soon overtaken by a 44 and then a 45. The final results were as follows:

1st Place: Mick Flower & Eric Hall with 45 points
2nd Place: Lees Surtees & Bob Hoy with 44 points
3rd Place: Alan Jenkins & Rob Thompson with 43 points

Colin Elrick Trophy (Non Masons): Mick Flower & Eric Hall

The organising Committee would like to thank everyone at Roseberry Grange for their support and also the many Sponsors who sponsored holes on the day.

Finally without the support of the Lodges and Brethren who came along this event would not be possibly. At the Presentation in late afternoon, £ 1250.00 was presented to John Deamer who represented the Armed Forces who expressed his gratitude at such a wonderful total and thanked everyone who played, organised and assisted in a splendid day.Look out for the 2026 Event and thank you all for your continued support
