A Historic Installation at Wear Lecture Lodge No. 7248

The recent installation meeting of Wear Lecture Lodge No. 7248 marked a truly historic milestone in the Lodge’s distinguished history. While the Lodge is not a Past Masters’ Lodge, it has always held a unique place in the Masonic community. Since its founding, Wear Lecture Lodge has never initiated new Masons. Instead, its focus has consistently been on enhancing and advancing the Masonic knowledge of brethren who are already members of the Craft - a tradition that continues to this day.

This year’s installation meeting was particularly significant, as it represented a first for the Lodge. For the very first time, a Brother who had not previously occupied the Chair of King Solomon was installed as Master.

The outgoing Worshipful Master, W. Bro. George Field, commenced the Installation, but had great pleasure in handing over to W. Bro. Ray Fitzsimmons for the Board of Installed Masters, who had the honour of installing his son, Bro. Peter Fitzsimmons, into the Chair. The occasion was both historic and deeply moving, reflecting the values of family, fraternity, and continuity that are at the heart of Freemasonry.

Both Ray and Peter are former members of Thornhill Lodge, which has since closed, making this installation not only a milestone for Wear Lecture Lodge but also a meaningful continuation of Masonic tradition and fellowship.

The evening was marked by excellent ritual, heartfelt congratulations, and a palpable sense of history being made within the walls of Wearside Masonic Temple. As Wear Lecture Lodge continues its mission of promoting Masonic learning and enlightenment, this unique installation will long be remembered as a highlight in its proud history.
