Universities Lodge goes Platinum
The regular meeting of Universities Lodge No. 2352 held on the 16th of January at Durham Masonic Hall, was a very special occasion which was marked by a visit from the Provincial Grand Master, John Arthur, the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, John Thompson and a host of Provincial Officers.
Jamie Godwin, the Worshipful Master welcomed John and his Officers into the Lodge and expressed his hope that they would enjoy the proceedings. The lodge then proceeded to conduct a double third degree for two students of Durham University. The degree was performed to an exceptionally high standard by a team of young Officers.
In the concluding business the Provincial Grand Master had the pleasure of presenting not one, but four Grand Lodge Certificates to new Master Masons within the lodge. He then went on to congratulate the members of Universities Lodge for their efforts of raising in excess of £43,000 towards the Durham 2021 Festival, which included a cheque for £20,000 which had been presented at the October 2019 Installation meeting in memory of the late member Norman Jackson. The Provincial Grand Master then presented the Platinum Award Certificate to Jamie and the Badge of the Platinum Award to the Charity Steward, Les Annis.
The Lodge was then closed and the many members and visitors, some of whom were from the Durham Light Blues Club, departed downstairs to enjoy an ample meal among friends. After the meal the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, John Thompson, Director of the Durham 2021 Festival, presented the lodge with the token of the Provincial Grand Master’s Award for surpassing the Platinum target.
It was a memorable night for all who attended, which should have a lasting impact on the newer members.
