Thursday 30th January 2020 saw another milestone for Restoration Lodge, who meet in Darlington, when George Edward Coulson was presented with a certificate for long service to Freemasonry having been a continuous member for the last 50 years.

The Deputy Provincial Grand Master, Stephen Walker, was in attendance to present George with his certificate along with another 80 Brethren from all four quarters of the Province. The Lodge of Jurists brought along 15 members to support George, who had been their Tyler since they moved to Darlington from Stockton over 20 years ago.

Stephen presented George with his certificate and thanked him for his services to Freemasonry in General and to the Province of Durham in particular. George then presented Stephen with a cheque for £300 towards the 2021 festival; the money being the profits from the mending and recycling of old Masonic Regalia, which George enjoys doing.

On behalf of the members, the Master of Restoration Lodge, Ian Groves, presented George with an engraved Crystal Bowl as a thank you for his dedicated 50 Years’ service. Lodge Secretary, Andrew Hill gave George a Certified Original copy of the “Yorkshire Post” from the 29th January 1970 plus a bounded book containing every front-page headline from the 29th January for the past 50 years.

At the Festive Board the celebrations continued with George’s favourite meal of Carrot and Coriander Soup followed by Lamb Hotpot. John Parker responded at the Festive Board to give thanks for all that George had done for Freemasonry over the last 50 years. Ian finally presented George with a Masonic Mug with the words “50 Years’ Service” so he could enjoy his early morning tea.

Restoration Lodge No 111 now have 4 members who have achieved 50 Years continuous membership.
