The Lodge received the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, WBro David Sanders Hay who was accompanied by members of the United Grand Lodge of England. The business of the evening included a ballot for a new member and a double Second Degree Ceremony passing Bro Bell and Bro Street.
At the completion of the ritual, WBro Hay proceeded to present Alan with his 50 year certificate from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Durham.
He informed the Brethren that Alan had been proposed by his father Les for Freemasonry and at the time of his Initiation into the Lodge was Junior Deacon. Alan was Master of Vane Lodge in 1975 and 1995, he also joined Trinity Lodge No4751
In 1987 serving as Master in 1993 and was a valued member of Dunelm Chapter No4079. Those serving as Provincial Grand Masters had over the years conferred him with Provincial Grand rank on three occasions, the latest being appointed PPJGW in 2012.
However, the surprise came when he announced that present in the temple was Bro Graeme Moore, also a Lewis at the time he was initiated into Vane Lodge and like his father a member of Trinity Lodge. To ensure there was a third generation present his grandson Bro Marcus Moore aged 23 years was present after being Initiated into Trinity Lodge in January of this year.
It was also disclosed that in July this year Alan would be celebrating another 50 year land mark soon, namely his marriage to his wife Joyce.
Outside of Freemasonry Alan had a successful business, an active supporter of Darlington Football Club and his Christian faith extends to contributions to All Saints Church in Darlington. He also has a keen interest in the history of his Lodges. once the Assistant Provincial Grand Master had formally presented the certificate to WBro Moore he reciprocated by giving a cheque to the Continuous Giving Scheme and thanking the Brethren and his family members for being present to make it such a memorable occasion.
Before closing the Lodge the Worshipful Master, WBro Avon Wailes, presented David Hay with two further cheques from the Lodge one for £150 (Continuous Giving Scheme ) and £40 (TLC teddies)

The Brethren then retired to a splendid festive board were the evenings celebrations continued with contributions from Lodge members, visitors and the man of the evening WBro Moore.
