The prime mover in the foundation of Bede College Lodge was the Principal of Bede College along with several others including the Bishop of Durham, the Director of Education, the Registrar and several Headmasters, all with strong connections to Bede College.
The Lodge was consecrated on the 16th October 1926 by the Provincial Grand Master, Lord Ravensworth. Originally founded for those people who were or had been connected with Bede College, the Lodge has grown into a Lodge which today comprises of members from all walks of life.
What We Do
We enjoy ourselves. Our members join the Freemasons for a number of reasons.
Some enjoy the social side, others enjoy raising money for charity, some enjoy making new friends from all walks of life.
We enjoy being part of a large group of like-minded people not just in our Lodge but lots of Lodges. When we visit other Lodges, we are immediately made to feel very welcome and when other people visit our Lodge, we make them welcome.
Our Lodge is renowned for its hospitality to visitors who always return again and again.
True friendships are made with other Masons, and those friendships are not just limited to the Lodge they can continue outside of the Lodge and involve partners and families.
We care about each other and are always ready to help and support each other both inside the Lodge and outside.
Then there is the Ritual, we enjoy that as well. The ritual teaches us a lot about ourselves and how to become a better person. Some people enjoy taking part in the Ritual, others enjoy listening to it.
