The Millennium project of the Freemasons of the Province of Durham is to dismantle the Sunderland Park Terrace Masonic Temple, built in 1869, and re-build it at Beamish North of England Open Air Museum. The Museum, which is in a 1913 setting, attracts thousands of visitors each year.
The foundation stone was laid on Saturday 1st July 2000 with full Masonic ceremony and when the Temple is complete in 2006, will attract both Masonic and non-Masonic visitors.
The illustration is an artist's impression of the completed building will look on completion.
