A Momentous Occasion at Dunston

Saturday 6th October marked a red-letter day for Durham, as over 400 hundred Durham Freemasons and Brethren from many other Provinces gathered to witness the Installation ceremony of V WBro John Arthur, PGSwdB, as Provincial Grand Master and Grand Superintendent following the retirement of his predecessor RW Bro Norman Eric Heaviside as PGM.

Some 10 years have passed since the Freemasons of the Province Durham witnessed an event of such high importance, emphasised by a packed Lancastrian Suite, who enjoyed an outstanding day with all the pomp and pageantry one would associate on such a momentous occasion.

Both Provincial Grand Chapter and Grand Lodge were reciprocally opened in due form by the Presiding Officer W Bro John Watts, before  graciously handing over to, The Right Worshipful Deputy Grand Master Jonathan Spence to impeccably preside over both  ceremonies, supported by Oliver Lodge Grand Director of Ceremonies of UGLE.

Following his investiture as our Provincial Grand Master,  John was rapturously applauded by the brethren,  we congratulate him and look forward to a bright future under his leadership.

At the conclusion of the formal proceedings  the room was hastily transformed in to a banqueting suite to allow all present to enjoy a fabulous luncheon and continue the celebrations into the early evening.
