A Golden Celebration in Washington Royal Arch Chapter
Washington Royal Arch Chapter, which meets in the Masonic Hall at Birtley, had the pleasure of a double celebration at its recent meeting on the 20th September.
Washington Chapter was founded in 1933, some 85 years ago and in that time the Chapter has had cause for many celebrations. Joining them on this special evening was the Assistant to the Provincial Grand Principles E Comp Rakesh Bhalla, accompanied by a Deputation of Provincial Grand Chapter Officers.
After the Chapter was opened, Raq and the Deputation of Provincial Officers were warmly welcomed into the Chapter Room and then introduced to the Chapter Principals, Peter Clark Zerubbabel, Rob Donmall standing in as Hagi and Tom Glendenning standing in as Joshua.
The main business of the evening was to present William Kirkbright with his 50 year certificate. William is a very private person and didn’t wish to have any fuss; the Chapter respected his wishes regarding this. Raq then asked Alan Gurney to read out the certificate citation, before handing it to Peter Clark to present to William, at a later date.
It was a busy evening for Raq, as the next business of the evening was a talk entitled, “An introduction to the Chapter Officers”, which was delivered by Raq.
The talk focused on each of the Chapter Officers, with the office holder asked to stand while his role and function was explained to the brethren. The history and background of each role, the colour and symbolism of the robes and the role they undertake in the working Chapter. The talk offered an invaluable insight, which was appreciated by everyone in the Chapter room, be they old hands or newer companions.
Peter thanked Raq for the very interesting talk and he then had the great pleasure in presenting a cheque, from the Chapter to Raq, for £100, to the Durham 2021 Festival.
That brought a very enjoyable evening to a close at Washington Royal Arch Chapter.
