Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Lodge of Fraternity No. 1418.

The Lodge of Fraternity is a lodge under the jurisdiction of the United Grand Lodge of England and of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Durham.

The lodge held its first meeting at Stockton-on-Tees on Thursday, 3rd April 1873.  Since that date it has held meetings on the fourth Thursday of each month, except for summer breaks, uninterrupted for over 135 years.

The town of Stockton-on-Tees is famous for the first passenger railway – from Stockton to Darlington – opened in 1825.  Other claims to fame are that John Walker, inventor of the friction match, was born here in 1781 and Thomas Sheraton, furniture designer and cabinet-maker in 1751.

Until the creation of new counties in the latter half of the 20th century Stockton was in the county of Durham.  The Masonic Province of Durham follows the historic county boundaries, encompassing the area between the Rivers Tyne and Tees.
