Welcome to the web-site of the District of Durham Royal and Select Masters. I hope you will find something of interest in this site which will be regularly updated to keep you abreast of the goings on within our District.
The areas covered by Provinces are, in the main, representative of the counties as they were in the early part of the 19th century. Thus the District of Durham covers the area of the old county of Durham; that part of the country between the River Tyne and River Tees, up to the Pennines in the west, including the boroughs of Sunderland, South Tyneside, Gateshead, Darlington, Stockton on Tees and Hartlepool, as well as the present day county.
The organisation gives all good men an opportunity to further their Masonic experience by partaking in uplifting ceremonies and enjoying the same refreshment and fellowship as Craft masonry together. It also practices charity, both looking after its own members and their dependants, at the same time supporting local and national charities.
By its open policy, Freemasonry is striving to overthrow the image of secrecy which it is perceived to have and the Order of the Royal and Select Masters is no different. This site and others like it should dispel any notion that we have something to hide. Our pages describe forthcoming events and news from around the District and they are updated frequently.
